Florida Baptist Association Enters into a Support Partnership with Orphan’s Heart

Orphan’s Heart, the international arm of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, is doing some unprecedented work in the Dominican Republic, and FBA is helping significantly in this work. Working directly with the President of the Dominican Republic, Orphan’s Heart is building 100 homes and a Community Transition Center in an impoverished part of the country. Recently, Don McLaughlin, FBA President, and I went to see for ourselves what Orphan’s Heart was doing – and we were moved and impressed! Our directors had already authorized the use of money from our investment account to fund the building of two homes and pay the salary of a pastor for this community for three years. After our return, at my request, the directors authorized the funds to build two more homes next year!

On Sunday, November 9, I was able to present Dr. Jerry Haag, President of the FBCH and Orphan’s Heart, with a commemorative check representing the total commitment of $80,000, which will be given by our association over the next two years, and a real check for $35,000 for this year’s portion. It was exciting to learn that just this week a pastor has been selected to reach and shepherd this new community being built in the DR. Fifty two homes have been built to date and families will begin moving in soon!

Please pray for Orphan’s Heart as they continue on this unprecedented venture. Pray also for Pastor Cavier as he begins his ministry to the people who will be living there.
