What We Believe

The foundation of what we practice and teach at First Baptist Church Monticello is always in agreement with these basic yet profound realities of faith.

The Bible is inspired by God infallible, without mixture of error.  It is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.

There is one everlasting God, existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, fully God and fully man.  Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sin, was resurrected, and has ascended to heaven.

Man was born in fellowship with God.  Through the fall, man became sinful; separated from God and His heaven.

The only way to live in fellowship with God is by faith in Jesus Christ alone, apart from any work.  At the moment of faith, our sin is removed through regeneration by the Holy Spirit to eternal life.

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer, sealing him/her to eternal life enabling the believer to glorify the Father by living a holy life and to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ.

All believers are united by the Holy Spirit to the Body of Christ, the church.  Christians are to commit to fellowship with one another by joining and ministering through a local church.

Jesus Christ will return to earth to reign as King and Lord.  Everyone will be resurrected-the saved to everlasting life, the unsaved to everlasting torment.

Evangelism

The GREAT Commission sets the parameters of our service to Him.  It’s a call for every member of God’s family.  Our primary purpose is to fulfill the GREAT commission – in our home, in our personal life, in our neighborhood, in our workplace, in our community and beyond.

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-20
